What we do

Employment Tribunals

Chambers has a long history of acting for claimants and respondents in claims brought in the Employment Tribunal for unfair dismissal, discrimination and redundancy. Two of our former members currently sit as Employment Tribunal Chairmen. Advice on prospects of success can be given in writing or in conference. We can also advise on case preparation, attend Case Management Discussions and provide representation at the final hearing on a fixed fee basis.

County Court

Many small and medium sized businesses are faced with a dilemma when they get involved in county court litigation, either as claimant or defendant. They can run the case themselves, thus keeping costs to a minimum but running the risk that a lack of legal knowledge or expertise may handicap their chances. Or they can instruct a solicitor, thereby incurring a potentially large liability for fees that they are not necessarily guaranteed to recover from the other side. The public access scheme provides an important alternative. A barrister can be instructed directly and in relation to a distinct step in the action. It might be to give an early advice as to the merits of the claim. It may be to draft a particular document, such as Particulars of Claim or Defence. You can directly instruct a barrister to represent you at court at a CMC or trial on a fixed fee basis.

High Court

Those who become embroiled in a High Court action generally pay a heavy price in terms of legal costs. The public access to barristers scheme provides an alternative to the expensive and potentially open-ended solicitors’ retainer. And in contrast to many solicitors, all barristers have higher court rights of audience. A barrister can be engaged to conduct or advise in relation to a distinct part of the proceedings: for example, drafting a pleading or injunction application, advising on liability or evidence, or presenting the case at trial.

Crime and Road Traffic

Barristers can give advice and act for clients in relation to allegations of breach of the criminal law, matters involving the police and prosecutions including private prosecutions. Representation in the Magistrates and Crown Courts in respect of road traffic offences including drink driving, reckless and careless driving, speeding, totting and special reasons hearings can be provided on a fixed fee basis.

Disciplinary and Regulatory Tribunals

Chambers acts for professional bodies and members of the professions charged with professional misconduct. Expert advice and advocacy is given in disciplinary proceedings relating to the medical professions, lawyers, accountants, surveyors, architects, vets, teachers, estate agents and the police. Representation on a fixed fee basis is available. Chambers has a specialist Regulatory team with members who sit as legal assessors for various professional bodies and give training to panel members. Chambers also acts for clients in education cases and sporting tribunals.
